As part of my new T2 setup on my omni, I want to be able to measure a
couple of key temps. Not for any real reason, just because I want to.
My vision is for a small panel with multiple LCD readouts of
different temperatures mounted somewhere low on the dash. I was also
looking to keep this as in-expensive as possible, like $10/per
temperature measurement.

I'm looking to measure incoming air temp, compressor discharge air
temp, throttle body inlet air temp, maybe even a water temperature!

I have been thinking about using some of the inexpensive digital
thermometers on the market today. Specifically, thermocouple/display
packages used for PC case mods. They are good from 0 to ~190F and run
on 12 volts. They also have backlit lcd displays. I don't expect
temperatures where I want to measure to be more than that.

The only problem I am running into is the length of the TC leads.
Most only come with 80 cm or 31 inches. I could potentially keep the
electronics under the hood and run the lcd display leads into the car.
I was wondering if anyone else had done this?

Digital meat thermometers are also an option. They have temperature
capability upto 550F but they have very short leads. My digital
weather thermometer has a nice six foot lead but is limited to ~150F
or so.

Any ideas?
