if you haven't figured it out yet....

i've had the intermediate shaft and oil pump gears shred themselves to the point where the distributor did sorta spin when cranking....just irregularly....obviously ignition timing became WAY off quite quickly. the timing belt never blew.

pull the distibutor and make sure the oil pump drive slot is spinning while cranking (if the timing belt is still there/on). time up the crank and make sure the rotor is at #1.

Timing belt. Could definitely be the timing belt. Pull the distributor and
crank the starter. If the rotor doesn't turn, then you'll be best served
going to the parts store and buying a timing belt. They aren't so bad to
do...
