I agree with you.  Based on the active work you and others are doing in 
libcmd, it seems to me that these ought to be the preferred "default" 
versions -- they have the most sought for features from GNU, but also 
bring performance and standard conformance benefits.

I'd be willing to sponsor an ARC case (it would have to be a fully 
reviewed case) to make this change.
