Imam Husain's Arbaeen Day is the day in which millions of people visit the shrine of Imam Husain in Karbala, Iraq coming from dozens of different countries from around the world. The majority of people make their visit after walking for 3-15 days. The farthest point from which they start the walk is 520 Kms. Last year, a reported 25 million people visited the Shrine on Arbaeen, making it the largest peaceful gathering ever in human history. In the year 680 AD, Imam Husain stood up against the tyrant ruler of his time who had put down all human rights by spreading injustice in society, corruption in the social and economic system, violating the rights of women and oppressing his people. In that year, Imam Husain, feeling a sense of responsibility to stand for human rights against such a tyrant, did so and was killed in the battle of Karbala with just 72 other companions on the Day of Ashura (10th Muharram, 61AH/680AD). But to this day his courage is remembered by millions around the world.
