Thanks Mike and Benjamin. Actually, I did not follow instruction in the manual since i knew that FTDI driver is already installed on my pc. When I updated the driver going into Device Manager and selecting "USB serial converter A/B" properties, I got my COM port. Hope this might help someone in future.

The FTDI enumerates behind a hub on the reader design (unlike a Telos) and sometimes there is a race condition which causes the OS to report the FTDI device as unrecognized. Most of the time, a persistent orange or red LED (UART port activity) is an indicator of this condition. Also for windows users, it is best to plug in the dock and allow drivers to load before you insert the Shimmer.
