There is no formal specification for the "grid" feature at this point in time.

When and if "grid" is standardized, we can discuss implementing it in Shindig.
In the meanwhile you might want to bring up standardizing this feature on the
spec discussion group at
http://groups.google.com/group/opensocial-and-gadgets-spec
