I have been root of the portals.zones.apache.org zone, where we used to have a jetspeed portal build live, not running right now. So I have some experience in a similar setup. A zone is a solaris virtual machine, where one or more of us would have the "root" permissions, probably via sudo and using private/public keys with ssh for login. We can install software there, though a number of java VMs and other things are already installed for the whole set of zones. http://www.apache.org/dev/solaris-zones.html With one zone we could easily run a tomcat or jetty instance, a PHP server, reviewboard if we want to, etc. I volunteer to help there, specially in the django/reviewboard area if desired, but I also have java experience.
