It's true, but getting a python 2.4 compatibility will need some hacks (like redefine the set() call or other funny things) and will ask for more packages dependancies (multiprocessing at least). We should start at some level. I'm a RH admin, so I know that RH is always stable... terribly stable. Too stable maybe.
Python 2.6 is easily upgradable in RHEL with an additionnal repository, and will not impact the system at all (the python is still the 2.4 version and modules will not merge) so it can be see as a new dependancy that will only be used by the Shinken program. So is it so unacceptable after all? :) RH users are always long to use a enw tool, so when they will look at shinken, we will be at the end of the RHEL6 support phase ;) I'll look at 2.4 compatibility, if it's just a hack for set and some exceptions rewrite (there is no "as" before 2.6 for exceptions, just ',' so the code is very ugly....) we can change it. If not, RH users will wait a little or add few lines in their repos.d directory :) Jean On Fri, Aug 6, 2010 at 2:20 PM, Aurelien Degremont <aurelien.degrem...@cea.fr> wrote: > nap a écrit : >> It can be great if for the 0.2 version we can have packages for: >> *RHEL5 >> *Centos5 > > Note that current RHEL release uses Python 2.4 > And if you want to have testers for RHEL/CentOS 5: "update to python 2.6" is > not an acceptable solution ;) > > > > -- > Aurelien Degremont > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > This SF.net email is sponsored by > > Make an app they can't live without > Enter the BlackBerry Developer Challenge > http://p.sf.net/sfu/RIM-dev2dev > _______________________________________________ > Shinken-devel mailing list > Shinken-devel@lists.sourceforge.net > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/shinken-devel > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This SF.net email is sponsored by Make an app they can't live without Enter the BlackBerry Developer Challenge http://p.sf.net/sfu/RIM-dev2dev _______________________________________________ Shinken-devel mailing list Shinken-devel@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/shinken-devel
