My experience comes from making fixes for Ubuntu packages, but since
their packaging guide sends you over to the Debian packaging guide for
reference, I think they're similar enough to be done at the same time.

Ubuntu packages are easier to get into official repositories, we just
need to make a package and post it to REVU
<http://revu.ubuntuwire.com/> for feedback. Packaging for Debian
requires a few tweaks to the ubuntu package and then some bureaucratic
red-tape in order for a developer to adopt your package or for you to
become a Debian maintainer. Perhaps Paulo can help us out with this?
