I've got a customer with a driver problem I can't figure out. He has a
Taylor Made 300 driver that has a True Temper EI-70 S-flex shaft in it.
He hits a low hook with this club. His current driver is a Golfsmith
260 TI with a Grafalloy M29 S-flex in it that he hits straight or with a
slight draw. This guy is a plus-something handicap that honest-to-god
hits the ball 280 or better. I played in a scramble with him a couple
of weeks back (we shot -20), so I've seen him swing. Very smooth tempo,
by the way. He looks like he's swinging at about 75% effort. According
to the DSFI index, the EI-70 shaft should be a LOT stiffer than that
M29, and he says it is. Now, my understanding is that the stiffer shaft
should hit a low slice instead of a low hook. Is there something about
the TM 300 that would cause that. Just by looking at it, I wouldn't
think so. He wants to put a Grafalloy Prolite 35 in it. He likes the
feel of that shaft. One other piece of info: usually with a shaft
that's too stiff, he hits a fade, but not this one. Anybody have a clue
about this? Thanx in advance for any info.
Mark
