you heat up the ferrule very slightly and cut around the base – then slide it up and out of the way before pulling the head.
Don't cut around the base. Heat the hosel, the epoxy bond of hosel and ferrule insert portion will give way. That way you save the insert portion of their ferrule. Most important when reshafting with graphite shafts.
