Al,
>Last I heard, G/S's business ran 75% OEM stuff and 25% components.  Components however, had twice >or thrice the profit margin.  They said, due to that, components would always be part of the program.

Well, OEMs are about twice to thrice the price of components, too...so a 15%-20% mark on both might come out a very similar margin in dollars per sale. ??? Three times as many OEM sales...that would be a big difference in OEM income compared with components....and far fewer fussy customers.  Have no idea what the mark-ups are on OEM equipment, so might be way off base on this one.

>How much of that went to hobbyists vs. "Pro" club makers I don't know.  I am sure Tom would know, and >am just as sure that he couldn't tell us.

I figured that...especially if he has a contract in effect...so didn't bother to ask. In the ad agency business, I had similar contracts and always respected them as much as possible. Had to work in another state for awhile to have a job doing what I did best, in fact.

>All of that aside, I have always liked the heads that Tom has designed and have been big sellers for me.  I >have never had many problems with their heads.  Eqipment?  That is another story for another tome. ;-)

I liked the components quality and appearance...and they seemed to work for my customers OK. (The Tour Cavities that I didn't like very well were sold to a 5 handicap senior who is very happy with them.) I just never seemed to have much luck with GS components for myself, before or after Tom was there. Never did try any of Tom's latest wood heads, though. Chicago, Mars, Integra, a few Hireko heads and then some of Bang's line performed very well for me and my senior customers for much less money than the GS line-up. Hope his new line is even better, now that he's free to make some different choices than he might have at GS.
