ShopTalk: not golf fire

Hi All,
I have lived in So. Cal. All my life and have experienced  fires and earthquakes for 46  years, but have never experienced anything like this, I am about 50 miles SW of most of it, and you can barely see the sun through the smoke and ash, it has been this way for several days now.
I made a trip to Kinkos this morn. at 11.00 and the radio said we had lost 300 homes, at 1.00 when I went to pick up lunch it said we had lost 600 homes.
It started as one fire which eventually turned into two which merged into one super fire but has now spread due to golf ball size embers going where the 40+ mph winds send them,
We are in trouble,
