Got a Palmer one iron in yesterday. Head about
the size of a peanut. Shaft snapped at the hosel. Shaft tip glued and pinned
into the hosel. I haven't seen one for a while. Proski said "gee Flan, have fun
with that one. Those are a bitch to repair, you'll have to drill it out." Hmm.
So here's the process. Drill through the pin. Use
a punch to knock the remaining pin into the hosel. Stick an e z out in the stub.
Clamp the e z out in the vise. Heat, twist and pull. Stub comes right out, no
problema.
Prep the new shaft tip, prep the hosel, slip a
ferrule on and epoxy the shaft in. Fill the pin hole with epoxy. Let it dry and
buff the ferrule and pin hole on the linen belt. Piece 'a cake.
I mention this cuz I suspect there's a few of our
stalwarts on this here electronic ship who've never seen a pinned-in shaft.
They're pretty simple to do. One interesting thing about this head is that it
wasn't a taper tip hosel. That kinda surprised me. Most all factory stuff
has tapered hosels. This was a pleasant surprise.
