I use XP, I have installed SP2,  and my CPU is an HP with an AMD processor ( the only processor I will use.).  Neither before installing SP2 of after have I had any problems.  I have used Dailup and now have DSL, again no problems.  No I am not a Microsoft guru or member of their fan club.  I am one of the last to give up my Netscape and I will go down fighting.  Besides chasing golf club making info I get involved in my second passion of photography and do a good bit of digital work.  My full time endeavor is being a writer so the system get a lot of use around here by me and that does not include how much my wife's uses it in her profession. No problems with our LAN connection either.  I have to move over to the old computer when the boss needs this one.  The old  system is Win95. Good luck on finding your problem.
