ShopTalk: Graphite Shafts

I would like to get some discussion on the benefits or disadvantages of 
filament wound graphite shafts as opposed to the "table rolled" shafts.  It 
seems to me that the filament wound would be preferable since the process 
doesn't create a spine.  The major manufacturers, however, don't seem to use 
that method.  Is there something I'm missing here?
