Chris,

Just ' chrome ' , or plate 3/4" bar with some other metal, and you have a putter that's different . Attachment, that's another challenge.

Subject: Re: ShopTalk: Heavy Putter

I was anxious to try the Heavy Putter concept so I cut a 3/4" round steel bar into a 200 gram weight and tied it tightly onto the back area of my 32" Ping Craz-E putter with a couple of plastic wire ties.  The bar fits tightly into a depression near the back end of the head and runs parallel to the putter face.  I inserted a 1/2" steel rod into the butt end of the shaft.  It was 10" long and weighed 250 grams.  I was surprised at how much steel it took to make the 200 gram head weight.  The 3/4" bar is nearly as long as the putter face.

With no practice other than a dozen hits on the practice green before the round, I headed out for the first round of the year.  After 3-putting the first two holes from 50 and 35 feet, I was wondering if my experiment was in vain.

But once I got the feel of the putter I couldn't believe how easy it was to putt with.  The short putts felt so smooth.  I had 7 1-putts and even though 3 of them were from 3 feet or less, I sunk others from 6, 7, 10, and 15 feet.  For some reason I had a lot of long putts that day and once I got the hang of swinging the putter on the long ones, I left 9 putts between 40 and 90 feet long no further than 2 feet from the hole.  Even with the two 3-putts I finished with 31 putts.

I really liked the feel of the putter and am anxious to try it again.  If this keeps up I'll probably buy a Heavy Putter when they're available.  Now that I know the concept works, I'd like to look at a nicer looking head than mine with a 3/4" bar of steel fastened to it.

No Arnie I don't mean "Knock off"   I don't build knock offs, never have & never will .  I curently use a  330 gram mallet  then I added 50 grams of  tungsten  to
and use a shortened shaft --33". -  it works ok for me. But I haven't put any Counterbalancing down the shaft  so I am going to try weight in the shaft  and maybe  put some extra weight in the head.   All these principles have been around for decades so I doubt if I will be contravening any patents.
 Regards Jeremy.

Has anyone tried to  find out  the specs of the Heavy Putter and if so
have you tried to build something along similiar lines?

Do you mean "knocking it off"?  If it meets will sales success you will see the head as a "similar" component. Just look at all the screw weighted drivers that are hitting the market.
