You could apply wax to them and then not wipe it off, it will leave an anti glare film, or if you could find a spray or dip coat just like a clear lacquer that wasn't so clear but left a bit of a haze that would work.
You could probably sand them with some very fine grit but if they are forged and you sand through the plating then they will rust so you would have to just blend/depolish the surface without actually scratching through the plate.
