There's been a lot of back and forth recently about how to blow on
grips. I was fooling around in the "grip department" today and decided
to try something a little different.
I had/have a graphite shaft, .580" butt diameter, and a "Dual Durometer"
grip with a .600" mouth. I placed a piece of duct tape on the butt end
to build it up to .600" and began to blow it on, using the "dip the
mouth in solvent" method. Then I recalled the "old days" of bicycle grips.
I put a little "Ajax" dish washing liquid on the tape and wiped it over
the first half of the taped area - a really thin coat. Then I put a
little in the grip mouth. I simply slipped the grip onto the shaft - no
compressor, no air, nothing other than a simple push/pull. I held the
mouth end in one hand, and the middle of the grip in the other, and slid
it on. No problem at all!
So, I tried it with a few others - a couple of Winns, a cord, and a Tour
Velvet. Every one went right on, and easily.
It worked for me.
