Dave, Maybe someday if the AGCP builds enough members to bring in a robot, high speed camera etc. we can all get together and do some testing that can be published. If we can do that maybe we can bring some loose standards into the industry that we can hang our hat on.
Long way to go on that right now. ;>(( Roy ----- Original Message ----- From: Dave Tutelman To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, August 04, 2008 6:10 PM Subject: Re: ShopTalk: Re: [SpinetalkersForum] Shaft flex redux At 04:35 PM 8/4/2008, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Dave Thanks for you comments. You're welcome. We're not far apart on this. I concede that point about the manufacturers but that being the reality I still have to fit my golfers and it is up to me to get the information to do it right. There is no doubt the manufacturer is negligent in not providing us with accurate information, Or savvy. IOW, not negligent to their stockholders. See my reply to TFlan. ... but that can't stand in the way of what we do. With that being a given we still have to understand and get the information on our own to do the best job for the customer. That was my point. I don't argue about Tflan's point or yours on this. You're spot-on with this. BTW, that's how I got started with the golf physics. When I started repairing, modifying, and building clubs in the mid-to-late 1980s, you could get info about shop practice but almost nothing about either engineering or fitting. (Really just Cochran & Stobbs' book.) Being an engineer (not just what I do, but who I am), I don't feel I know something unless I understand it. So I started doing my own research on it. As an amateur with a very limited budget, a lot of what I did was either analysis (cheap if you know physics and programming) or fairly anecdotal experimentation. But it was a start. And when I found something I thought was interesting, I posted an article on the Internet (usually rec.sport.golf). The clubfitter has a lot more information available today. I like to think I have helped in that regard. But, as TFlan notes, there could still be a lot more information if the component and club manufacturers would publish all their research. (Not just the self-serving stuff.) Once in a while, you do see it published. But I know a bunch of research that has not been published, all of which I am not at liberty to disclose. Cheers!
