Bob, Moe has it right and you can use paper towel instead of cotton cloth with good success. Apply little to no pressure for best results.

Soak the cloth and rub like you were shining a shoe. If the ferrule gets a little dull with the "shine", acetone on the cloth gently wiping will bring the shine up.
