Well in fairness, with 2.6.18 and I imagine anything older than 2.6.23 
or so, various things just "don't work".
Marking and iproute2 rules for one thing just quietly didn't work, 
without any error state. I know this confusion first hand.

So I think unless shorewall6 checks the kernel version and yells loudly, 
you might expect quite a bit of "It doesn't work!".
