I regret that I must write this email, but I think that it is time that
we began discussing this issue.

I celebrated my 70th birthday last fall, and a month later I underwent
surgery for cancer. While I am now cancer free, that experience brought
home to me that I am mortal and that I will not live forever.

One of my greatest regrets is that I have not been more successful at
creating a wider community around Shorewall development. Yes -- there
are people who contribute to the code base and for those folks, I am
extremely grateful. But the bulk of the core development has always been
mine. So we need to begin thinking about what happens when I am no
longer able to contribute.

Let's start this conversation by asking if any of you on the list are
interested in taking over the lead on Shorewall development. If you are,
I will be happy to turn over the reins at your pace. There is no
urgency, but I would really like for Shorewall to continue after I am gone.

Regards,
-Tom
