Subject: Announcing Shorewall's new Trac project site

The Shorewall developers are pleased to announce the availability of a
new Trac project site located at <http://trac.shorewall.net>. This site
represents a shift in the desires of the Shorewall developers to capture
the knowledge of the Shorewall community. More and more open source and
free software projects are making use of wikis and other collaborative
tools, making it apparent that Shorewall and the community around it
could derive tremendous benefits from increased collaborative efforts.

The initial purpose is to make use of Trac's built-in wiki. This will
allow ordinary users to create and maintain wiki pages, capturing
knowledge that might be more transitory in nature, such as lessons
learned from discussions in an IRC channel. Additionally, lengthy
mailing list discussions, which can be tedious for the solution-seeking
user to wade through, can be condensed into a single concise wiki page.
The wiki is meant to act as a supplement to the official Shorewall
documentation, not a replacement.

The Shorewall developers would like to call on the users of Shorewall
for their assistance in helping to make the new wiki an indespensible
resource for those seeking information about Shorewall.

Users and developers interested in keeping up to date on changes to the
new site (including the wiki and other Trac components), are encouraged
to subscribe to the <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
mailing list or to monitor the online archive of the list at
<http://sourceforge.net/mail/?group_id=22587>.

With time, the developers hope to be able to integrate additional Trac
features into the shorewall development process. However, the Shorewall
source code will continue to be hosted at SourceForge, as will the
mailing lists. New Shorewall releases will still be posted to the main
Shorewall website, the SourceForge project page and the FreshMeat
project page.

The new site is also available at <http://wiki.shorewall.net>.

Hosting and maintenance of the Shorewall Trac project site is being
provided by Connexer, Ltd., <http://www.connexer.com/>.

About Shorewall
---------------

The Shoreline Firewall, more commonly known as "Shorewall", is a
high-level tool for configuring Netfilter. You describe your
firewall/gateway requirements using entries in a set of configuration
files. Shorewall reads those configuration files and with the help of
the iptables utility, Shorewall configures Netfilter to match your
requirements. Shorewall can be used on a dedicated firewall system, a
multi-function gateway/router/server or on a standalone GNU/Linux
system. Shorewall does not use Netfilter's ipchains compatibility mode;
as a consequence, Shorewall can take advantage of Netfilter's connection
state tracking capabilities to create a stateful firewall.
