As we announced earlier, although our original plan was to release IPv6 support late next year in Shorewall 4.4, by taking a different approach we have been able to produce the code much sooner and with less risk to existing IPv4 users.
As a consequence, we are happy to announce Shorewall-4.2.4-RC1 which includes IPv6 support. The changes to Shorewall-perl to support IPv6, while extensive, were very straight forward and we believe that the chance of breaking existing IPv4 configurations is small. Nevertheless, We are taking a cautious approach by starting with a release candidate. We urge existing Shorewall-perl users to try the release candidate and let us know if we broke anything. We also encourage those of you who have been clambering for IPv6 support in Shorewall to give the RC a try. The code may be downloaded from /pub/shorewall/development/4.2/shorewall-4.2.4-RC1 at your favorite Shorewall download site (sorry -- the release candidate is not available from Sourceforge). There is an overview document at http://www.shorewall.net/IPv6Support.html and IPv6 manpages may be found at http://www.shorewall.net/Manpages6.html. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ SF.Net email is Sponsored by MIX09, March 18-20, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
