I want to check (using Nagios) whether Shorewall is active on remote systems (I appreciate that it isn't a daemon). Some quick experimentation shows that the exit status of "shorewall status" is 0 when active and 3 when cleared or stopped. Can those exit statuses be relied upon? I couldn't see any documentation regarding this on the Shorewall website.
