Welcome. But no, it's poor netiquette to reply to another thread to start your own. When you do that, your message should have reference headers linking it to that other thread - the result being that threaded viewers (such as web based archives) will frequently interleave your thread with the original one, This causes confusion for people looking through the archives at a later date - or using a mail client that does this threading (as many do). So it's just a matter of good netiquette to always start a new thread by creating a NEW message in your mail client.
