I've just installed the newest shotwell and decided to start-over and get it to import my f-spot database. Things looked ok during the 'Preparing' stage, then when the import itself began shotwell crashed. This is what appeared on the terminal:

Error: Directory Canon: Next pointer is out of bounds; ignored.
XMP Toolkit error 203: Duplicate property or field node
Warning: Failed to decode XMP metadata.

The images it appears to have failed on (I've kept a copy of ~/.cache/shotwell.log too if that's any help) look like very old scanned photos that probably have dodgy exif data.
