On flickr there a tag format convention for a group that I upload photos. The date is formatted in a common way and anyone who copies photos to the group uses the same format, making it easy for visitors to see the event by particular day.

In f-spot I used an Events tag with the dates inside; e.g. 24-September-2011. In shotwell there is the automatic event generation which is pretty nifty, and allows renaming. So I can rename Sat, 24 Sep, 2011 -> 24-September-2011. Unfortunately, unless I'm mistaken, this data must be held in the database, and not written as a tag to the file itself. So when it's uploaded to flickr the event does not appear automatically as a tag. I'm assuming this is the same whether photos are 'published' or exported and manually uploaded.

Would it be feasible to allow the Event name to be written as part of the exif data?

Dougie
