I ask because this is theme specific -- we just add a certain "style class" to the widget, and it's up to the theme to decide what to do. I notice we've added a "sidebar" and "sidebar-pane-separator" style class to Geary, but we did not do this for Shotwell. (Chances are we just didn't notice since most of us here run Ubuntu, and its default theme doesn't do anything special for sidebars.)
