Thanks for reporting this. Of all of the points you've made, this is one that concerns me the most, because it involves a crash. I have a question for you though. I've never seen a case where the ACPI chip on a laptop will put it into standby mode during the middle of a USB I/O operation (i.e., importing photos from the camera). Does this happen when you're doing other forms of USB I/O? For example, if you start copying a bunch of files off a USB thumb drive to your hard disk and then leave your laptop unattended, does your computer go into standby mode even if the copy hasn't completed?
