Lucas is right: I was intending to do something for it until real life
took over and my free time disappeared. If you have the time to work on
it, I'm happy to help you with any question you might have. If memory
serves me well, I had the intention to use the Piwigo plugin as a
starting point as the Gallery 3 API seems to be similar to the Piwigo
one in the way it operates.
