I've emailed the stacktrace and log to shotwell at yorba dot org.
To clarify my situation, shotwell is running fine for me with
gstreamer-plugins-ffmpeg and WITHOUT gstreamer-plugins-bad. I'm getting
thumbnails on my .MOV files.
For the stacktrace, I reinstalled gstreamer-plugins-bad.
