This may not nesseciarily be a shotwell problem, I had these errors right before my previous external hdd failed. It would start to import, then fail due to a 'hardware error'. I would try doing a disk check first and seeing what that comes up with, but i know mine had read errors, right where my library was which was causing hardware errors. If there was an I/O error, this would probably have caused the unsetting of the setting also.

Just a thought,
Scott.

Hi Joseph,

I don't see any error when importing this photo. The errors you listed are
warnings from Exiv2 and not serious in any way.

How are you importing this photo? Is it from a camera, a USB stick, or your
hard drive? Are you copying or importing in-place?

Jim,

I was copying the photos from a local folder. In looking at my preferences I saw the
"Import photos to" field was set to (none), after updating this I got the
import to work successfully. So I guess there needs to be a check at import time for that
directory being set, and if not set maybe pop-up (as much as I dislike popups) a window
to allow the user to set it. I don't know how it came unset in the first place.
