Dear all,

pushing a new shr-testing snapshot is always quite an exciting time for
me. After quite some time of no updates, we have now managed to create a
new and updated SHR testing snapshot. I have tested a fresh reflash, and
I also have tried to opkg upgrade (it worked for me, but that might have
been luck). The -lite and -full images have been built, and the feed has
been compiled as well, however, I only tested functionality of
applications in -lite.

I would prefer a reflash is possible, but opkg *should* work.
If you plan to opkg upgrade, please make sure you activate a swap
partition on a SD card, as the downloads alone will consume all
available RAM. Instructions for swapfiles here:
http://trac.shr-project.org/trac/wiki/swap. I tried it with 64MB swap
and that worked fine, but I believe that 32MB might have worked as well.

Also, do run an upgrade via SSH access in a screen session, as the
restarted X would otherwise kill you upgrade process.

CAUTION
=======
We had some cases where the Freerunner would fail to register to the GSM
network, as the fso-abyss process exits unexpectedly. It must be a very
subtle race condition, and setting frameworkd's logging level to DEBUG
weirdly helped to fix that. So if your Freerunner refuses to register,
try to set the logging level in /etc/frameworkd.conf to DEBUG. Also,
please report back if it works for you. Mickey is on to fixing it (After
finding the cause which is not obvious at all).

The shr-testing snapshot is basically the same as the shr-Unstable from
a few days ago, so expect all the same things as you got in the recent
shr-Unstable snapshots. I expect this snapshot to remain relatively
stable over the coming weeks, however, I will pick single version
upgrades if they fix specific issues and add them to shr-t.

Please report back issues to our trac system, so we can fix them.

Have fun,
spaetz
