So the answer was:
bitbake -c clean ncurses ncurses-native
bitbake -k shr-lite-image
which is something to do with
http://git.openembedded.org/cgit.cgi/openembedded/commit/?id=84bfaa05361391edc6a82acafbb1996c789a3a12
Failing that, remove everything from shr-unstable/tmp/ except
shr-unstable/tmp/cache to get a complete clean build.
