Sure.
Currently i'm doing it the 'hard' way : in /etc/asound.conf i have

and i 'simply' switch the commented line. But it's not convenient in some
cases where you want to do it quickly, or if  you want someone else to swap
it for you.

I think that the easiest solution would be to create a pcm.foo entry for
each device, and call mplayer -ao alsa:device=<foo>. 

To get the list of available devices, you could then grep 'pcm.'
asound.conf, and simply skip !default.
