Hi,

Last night I upgraded from an ancient full SHR-U full (early september '09) to
the latest lite SHR-U and thought it would be nice to share of my early
findings.

The entire look and feel is a lot more consistent and cleaner. From a usability
perspective there have been major improvements: notifications, contacts
scrolling, theming... it all fits together much better than before. Good stuff!

There are however a few things I noticed, which, to me, are regressions
compared to the old version:

- sound during a call is too loud. In fact, it's _screaming_ loud. People that
are in the same room with me can overhear what the person I'm talking to is
saying. This was not the case before. I've kept a copy of the also.state files
from the old build I used. The sound settings in that build where better during
a call. Will overwrite the current ones with the old ones and see if it fits
better.

- mute ringing phone on incoming call is gone. There used to be a button
showing at the bottom of the screen during an incoming call. The layout was
[accept] [silent] [reject]. This actually was really good and I used the silent
button all the time, but this feature is now gone... Any chance of getting it
back?

- some applications respond remarkably slower than before. Mainly loading up
the terminal is a lot slower compared to how it was loading in the previous
version.

- matching incoming number to contact no longer works. The contacts are stored
on the SIM. All have the international prefix (for example: +44123456789) and
the phone prefixes in the config files are left untouched. Now, still without
touching the settings, the incoming calls are not matched to the entry in the
contacts list. However, in the missed calls phonelog (yes, this SHR-U is
freaking out on when receiving a call so my incoming calls all ended up missed)
, these numbers are matched to a name. In the previous version this all used to
work also without any changes to the prefix settings.

- stability has deteriorated. During my first day I had to reboot three times
and even once had to remove the battery to get the phone to behave. With the
old build I was running for weeks without any of this...

Still, the entire package just looks and feels more mature.

Let me know if any of these findings should end up in the tracker and I'll do
it.

Hope you find it useful.

Kind regards,

Niels.
