Ouch. Things to try:
* Connect the phone to the internet, then run:
opkg update
opkg upgrade
Development changes things all the time. Maybe you got an image made
at a "bad" time. Some packages will likely be upgraded,
this might help.
It is easy enough to try, and the risk of new bugs is not something
to worry about as the phone seems useless as-is.
* If upgrading doesn't help, flash a different image. Test if receiving
calls works, before you customize anything.
