Oh, and if you suspend without locking the screen, it wakes up alright.

I've got the same problem.

Notice that also the locking SHR screen isn't working right; after booting, if you let the screen lock up, and you press the AUX button to unlock, it unlocks and then re-locks immediately, which is a new problem. I have to slide the lock screen slider to unlock, and this works.
But then on the first resume I run into that problem too:
- the (blank) kernel console screen comes up, like usually;
- Xorg doesn't take the screen;
- it stays that way until it times out normally and sleeps again. SSH is possible, and a killall -9 Xorg lets me restart X.
- all subsequent wake-ups are anomalous...

There doesn't seem to be anything useful in the framework and Xorg logs...

This feels like Xorg or some other part of X system apps isn't getting the right events from the power and aux buttons?...

No deep freeze, though. I can talk to the FR via USB-ssh and the backlight
level responds to a tap on the display. According to ps aux enlightment is
running. But no desktop on the screen.
Is your screen just darkened (by Dark Fader :-)?

Like said above: The backlight increased when I tapped on the screen.
The first time the freerunner got into this state,there was a line of tiny, white text at the very top of the screen. The second time, it was just a little blinking cursor which lighted up when I tapped the screen. So, no backlight problem here.
