The calypso specifics still have to find it's way to fsogsmd. That is quite on top of the list of mickey though, I don't think it will take long :-)
For echo there is the workaround to add ;%N0187 to modem_init in fsogsmd.conf. Same does not seem to work for the deep sleep mode though. But try for yourself and add ;%SLEEP=2 to modem_init too.
