Here are some tips. Some of them are realized yet but they are not
integrated in Elementary:
* An app (like Iliwi) which in background analyzes the local in order to
find a Wifi-connection. If so, it advice the user, if he wants to
connect to that connection
We already have wpa_supplicant. It doesn't notify, but it _can_
sniff continously for "known networks" and auto-connect to
all known ones. (With a priority order, when several networks
are available.)
* Calling: VoIP
* SMS: to be implemented with MMS and a mail client: read, send, delete,
save attached files, ...
MMS would be nice, sure. Separate mail clients for linux exists and can
be ported. Find one that works well with the small screen.
* A text reader: write, save, new file, character (color, size, font,
bold, italics, underline, ...), syntax highlightning, search file → See
Leafpad and Medit
Vim can do syntax highlighting. For fonts you probably want a word
processor? People have used openoffice, but I'm note sure about performance.
* A file manager (go up and down through directories, open files, move
and copy files, delete files,
At least SHR comes with a file manager?
* An app which blocks access to SMS, directories and calls (by digiting
a secret number or drawign a personal picture)
Get a screen lock program.
* A frontend to opkg (like Ubuntu Software Center or Synaptic) to
install new apps but specially to update the software
* A videoplayer
We have mplayer already. If you want a GUI for it, there is intone.
* A plotter: insert function, insert another function, value in, show
derivative (in), integer (between), zero(es), (I needed it :D)
There is plenty of math software for linux. If you don't want to port
stuff yourself, install Debian on the phone and have it all.
* A social network client (I don't need it but someone else yes) like
Gwibber
* An istant messenger client: MSN (!!!), Gtalk, Jabber, ...
* GAMES:
** Dance game
(http://www.dignews.com/legacy/screenshots/ddr_supernova_06.jpg)
** Port of some games from Linux-distros
** dunno! Please Valery help me :D
As for the math software, consider using debian. You'll get almost all
software there is for linux. A disadvantage is that debian is not
optimized for the small device (small screen, little memory.) So it
won't be as snappy as SHR, and you'll need a large sdcard.
