Sebastian,

Thanks for the tip.  Using the follow parameter makes the sdl interface work 
well enough for me.  It doesn't actually fix the problem, but since it redraws 
the screen more frequently, then my position gets redrawn frequently enough 
for it to work.

I thought of a better way to describe the problem.  If I start navit and wait 
for a fix, then zoom out far enough to see my whole city, my displayed 
position would remain in the spot where I got the fix no matter where in the 
city I went.  If I left my city, navit would recognize that I moved out of the 
displayed map and redraw the screen.  With the redraw, it would draw my 
position in the correct spot, but it would remain in that spot no matter where 
I went as long as I stayed in the displayed part of the map.

So, it seems like navit does keep up internally with were I am, but doesn't 
properly redraw my position on the map as I move around within the currently 
displayed map area.
