We have been using Siesta on a similar machine, single box with 8 duel
core Opterons.
I compiled Siesta successfully a few different configurations but this
is what I currently use:
Intel FORTRAN v9.x
Openmpi 1.2
ACML 3.6
Then I built BLACKS and SCALAPACK using ACML for the LAPACK libs.
There is a FAQ on the OPENMPI website about building BLACKS and
SCALAPACK. They also have a mailing list for MPI problems.

Cheers,
Kevin
