Well, it's easy to check - just take SZ and then DZ and compare total energy. If the impact of DZ is similar to that of DZ for s and p states, then it is worth using DZ.Zn is not a good example of using SZ for semicore
Of course checking for exact properties of interest would be more precise but longer.
