I have a crystal semiconductor sound card (cs4237b, I believe), and been
playing cd's for a few months, only to discover that I really haven't
configured it properly when I couldn't get my mp3's to play. The pages
specifically for my laptop and ones like it, don't offer very much advice.
Has anyone gotten this card werking w/ linux?

When I try and play an mp3 ( I've tried several players), I basically get
a buch of machine-like noise. Supposedly, this card is compatible with
soundblaster, yadda yadda. Here's my /etc/conf.modules (if it'll help):

alias eth0 3c503
alias sound sb
options -k sb io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1
alias midi opl3
options -k opl3 io=0x388
#alias sound cs4232
#options -k cs4232 io=0x530 irq=5 dma=1,0
#alias midi opl3
#options -k opl3 io=0x388

namaste,
Mark

---- re: Charlatan filter -----------

The problem is, you shouldn't be worrying about "newbies", but dorks. I
don't think anyone has devised a filter for that yet.

I have absolutely no problem with newbies, I might actually be able to
help them, hence one more linuxite. If they need help setting up their box
(and can't send mail from it), they should still be able to post.

They only way to do this as far as I know is a filtering them.
