if I type that at the 'boot:' prompt it just says it can;t find the image named 
vga=ask.

I'm given the initial install menu, where I can use F1-F6 for info on things to 
consider,
then I hit enter, it says it's loading initrd.img, prints 3 dots, then freaks out. I 
can
still see the screens, just can't read any of them, so I'm not sure what I'm doing.

This isn't a laptop, its a desktop system. I've tried 4 monitors, two Dell and two 
apple
with an adapter. They all did the same thing.
