i've heard many people like christ advocate the dec based cards.
i heard so many that i ran out bought one. i sorely regret it. it was
much more expensive than my other ne2000 cards and its performace
was _much_ worse. I wasn't able to get more than 35k across a
10BT lan. i was told that i should load the tulip driver as a module
and pass it arguements or whatever to set it to work correctly, i don't
have those args and don't feel like going on a goosehunt to find them
either. ne2000 cards have never given me any problems. ( i currently
have a strange network dilemma, but it is not related to this )
just try to buy one from a good company, it's a good rule of thumb to
simply steer clear of generic hardware; i'm a big believer in "you get
what you pay for."
people can trash pci ne2000 all they want, but i've gotten all the
performance i need out of these cheap and easy to use cards.
you can find good quality hardware for a fair price at http://www.pricewatch.com
