might also be /var/spool/mail/$USER
you can check the env variable $MAIL as a user
and likewise the settings for your mda (stock sendmail under redhat uses
procmail, YMMV).
If you're not using sendmail/procmail or you've got other configuration
options turned on, you may be delivering to the user's home directory
(qmail does this by default, I believe).
