I can't say anything about Gigabyte boards, but I've been very happy 
with my K6-2 350 running Linux.  I think there is even less reason
to buy an Intel CPU for server work, since FPU performance is much
less of an issue.  Sure you could get a faster intel Xeon CPU,
but you're probably better off spending the $n00 on getting faster 
disks (SCSI, presumably), more memory, more cache, or some other 
server hardware.
